About this test

What this test measures

We all know that calcium helps our bones stay healthy. But did you know that our cells can't absorb it without vitamin D? Additionally, the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties of vitamin D helps us maintain healthy immunity, muscle function, and brain cell activity.

This at-home test measures your vitamin D levels to help you detect a deficiency. Most often caused by a lack of sunlight or diet, vitamin D deficiencies may also be a symptom of another disorder.

Who should take this test

A vitamin D deficiency is a common problem that can lead to bone disorders and other medical complications. You may want to consider monitoring your vitamin D levels if you are at-risk of developing a deficiency because you:

  • Are age 65 or older. As you age, your skin is less able to make vitamin D from sunlight.
  • Rarely expose your skin to sunlight
  • Have a vitamin D-deficient diet
  • Are living with a condition that makes it difficult to absorb nutrients in food
  • Take medicines that affect your vitamin D levels

Common signs of vitamin D deficiency are symptoms related to your bones, which include:

  • Bone pain
  • Muscle weakness or aches
  • Soft, deformed, or broken bones

You must be age 18 or older to take this test. Due to state restrictions, this test is not available to residents of New York.

What to know about vitamin D

What's a deficiency?
Approximately 35% of adults in the United States have some form of vitamin D deficiency.¹ Vitamin D isn't naturally found in many foods and it can be hard to get an adequate amount of time in the sun with a busy lifestyle. This can lead to a lower-than-normal level of vitamin D, which can impact bone health, brain function, immune system, and muscles. Taking a vitamin D test can help you understand your own levels of vitamin D and if you should be proactive about increasing your vitamin D production.

Test yourself conveniently and talk to a healthcare provider
Taking a vitamin D test can help you be proactive to ensure your body has the optimal levels needed. Get your test to collect your sample at home and review results right from your Cue Health App. Plus, it's easier than ever to discuss your results with on-demand telehealth visits through your App.

What can you do?
The recommended daily amount of vitamin D is 15 micrograms (600 International Units) for adults up to age 70.² Diet changes and supplements are easy ways to increase your levels of vitamin D. If you have a vitamin D deficiency, speak to your healthcare provider about how much vitamin D you should take daily to bring you to optimal levels.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are the results?

The laboratories we partner with to process Cue tests are CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited, which means they meet the highest standards for pathology and laboratory medicine. Additionally, each of our test kits are assembled in FDA-registered manufacturing facilities.

How long does the testing process take?

In most cases, your results will be available 3 to 5 business days after the lab receives your sample. You’ll be notified once you can securely review your results in the Cue Health App. If your results are delayed, our customer service team will reach out to you.

Holidays may cause shipping and laboratory delays. These holidays include:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Friday after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day

Will my insurance cover the cost of the test?

Cue tests are not currently covered by insurance, but we are actively working with health insurance companies to get coverage for Cue Health solutions. However, many Cue Care tests are FSA/HSA eligible, which means that your health benefits may be able to cover Cue. We recommend connecting with your insurance provider directly to inquire more about their policies and your plan. We work hard to keep our pricing accessible, and in most cases, the price of a Cue Care test is similar to the out-of-pocket costs for testing in a clinical setting.

I ordered my kit. What should I do next?

Get started by downloading the Cue Health App. Please ensure you’ve installed the latest version (1.16 or newer). Follow step-by-step instructions within your app and sample collection kit to collect and mail in your sample. If you have trouble registering your test kit, please reach customer support from the Cue Health App. You may also contact support@cuehealth.com or 1 (833)-CUE-TEST.

How will I receive my results?

In most circumstances, your results will be ready within 3-5 business days of the lab receiving your sample. You’ll be notified once you can securely review your results in the Cue Health App. Your health data is sent confidentially, and complies with HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.

Health test results can vary from person to person. We recommend speaking with a healthcare provider if you want to better understand your test, or if you have unexpected or abnormal results. You may also receive additional information from our team via email within 24 hours. If your results are invalid or you want to repeat your test, please contact customer support at 1 (833) 283-8378 or email cuecaresupport@cue.me.

Will my package be shipped discreetly?

Your package will be delivered discreetly by Amazon, our delivery fulfillment partner. Your order will always arrive in an Amazon box with no test names or Cue Health-branded images. Cue Health will not appear anywhere on your package in normal circumstances; however, it may occasionally appear on your shipping label on rare occasions.

Are Cue Care tests available in every state?

Due to state restrictions, Cue mail-in lab tests are not available to residents of New York. Additionally, the Colon Cancer Screening, the Women’s Sexual Health Panel, and the Men’s Sexual Health Panel is not available to residents of New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. These restrictions do not apply to Cue’s COVID-19 test.

What support will I get with my results?

What your test means about your health varies from person to person. If you have questions or want to discuss your results, we recommend speaking with a healthcare provider. You can go to the Care tab in your App to chat with a provider and access 24/7 virtual care; however, you should speak to your doctor if you want to inquire about unexpected or concerning results. If you test positive for certain conditions with a Cue test, you can access treatment with Cue Care™ services at no extra cost. If you receive a prescription, you’ll just have to cover the cost of your medicine. Please check the Cue Health App or our Cue Care FAQs for more information on which conditions are treated.
